The Year 4 girls have been busy with an exciting STEM project – building roller coasters from reusable and recyclable materials!

The girls created the most impressive roller coasters using a range of materials collected from home and around the school. They learned about the importance of recycling and shared this with their family and friends by encouraging them to reuse and recycle!

The girls worked in project groups to design a roller coaster, create it, test and reflect. They realised their FAIL (First Attempt In Learning) was not practical and after reflection solved their problems and finally created functioning roller coasters. They showed great collaboration and perseverance skills, together with the most impressive roller coasters!

STEM learning is a huge focus in modern schools, with the skills gained being of vital importance for their future careers as the world advances. STEM develops a set of thinking, reasoning, teamwork, investigative, and creative skills that students can use in all areas of their lives.

The girls now look forward to creating environmentally friendly Christmas decorations for the classroom using the left over materials!
