At the start of this academic year the English department decided to introduce the word of the week (WOTW) for all students in the senior school. Each week, Years 7-11 are introduced to a new word which is designed to enrich their vocabulary. They are given the word itself, the definition and an example of where it might be used in everyday English. Students are then encouraged to use this word in lessons or in the course of the school day.
Has your daughter been using any arcane phraseology? Has her vocabulary become more nuanced? Is she showing a penchant or predilection for the bon mot which had not been evidenced before? If so, it could mean that she is listening to her form tutor and expanding the limits of her vocabulary and of her world.
