Our visit to the ‘Ragged School Museum’ was a cross curricular trip. It addressed our history (The Victorians) and literature (The Street Child) topics. It consolidated the girls’ understanding of what life was like in the Victorian era and the historic role children played during that period.
They learnt a lot and had fun. According to Olivia, “I loved this trip and it was fun seeing what schools were like in the Victorian era.” Zainah said, “We discussed poor Victorian families’ houses and their daily lives.” Waniya concluded by saying, “It was an impressive experience to see the real school attended by children like Jim Javis (in our literature text) and learning how it sheltered them from living on the street.”
