‘SECRET BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY’

The new school library (located in the former Spanish room) has now been running for five months. It is open to Upper School students at breaks and lunchtimes and is staffed by a team of volunteer librarians who have contributed some fresh innovations.

One such idea, from Imaan in Year 10, was to have ‘secret books’ selected by librarians on the shelves along with others which are conventionally arranged and displayed. These books are wrapped in plain paper and have a description of the genre and themes of the book handwritten on the front. The idea is to encourage students to read works by authors they might not already be familiar with. It is hoped that this might be a way of broadening the range of reading currently done amongst the girls at the school.
