On Monday, 28th June Ms. Bloor and I took Year 10 GCSE Art pupils to the Saatchi Gallery in London. We had the whole place to ourselves as the gallery was closed to the public that day, so we felt extremely lucky.
We had a guided tour of work by French artist JR followed by a printing workshop. JR is known for his powerful social commentary expressed via graffiti, Street Art, and photography. JR uses the streets as his gallery and features women, elderly people, and immigrants to name a few. JR’s work was very powerful and emotional especially his set for Time magazine based on gun laws in the U.S.
The girls really enjoyed the trip, and the resulting research will be presented in their sketchbooks.
