Readathon

readathlon-certificateOnce again, this March we are running a Read for Good Readathon and inviting all the girls from Reception to Year 9 to join in.

The girls can choose whatever they want to read – from comics to classics, e-books and poetry to blogs – they are not being assessed, it’s all about reading for fun. Sharing books is fine too (in fact recommended!) as well as listening to audio books. They are motivated to read because the money they raise in sponsorship helps to provide a regular supply of brand new books and a resident storyteller to every major children’s hospital in the UK.

The freedom to choose what to read, combined with the knowledge that they are directly helping children in hospital never fails to motivate our pupils to get involved.

Through a total of 21 Readathons since 1995 we have raised the grand total of £26,048. We recently received a certificate from Read for Good to celebrate this achievement. They told us that a number of independent schools have run Readathon at some point since it began in 1984, but only a handful in the country have embraced it like Park School for Girls, helping to transform the lives of thousands of children in hospitals across the UK. We are immensely proud of all those girls who have taken part over the years and hope to raise as much money as we can in 2020.

The students will be looking for sponsors amongst family and friends to help children in hospitals get books, as well as helping themselves as our school receives free books worth 20% of our grand sponsorship total. We use this to boost our school libraries – so there really is something in it for everyone.

Thank you in advance for your support.
