Today, we acknowledged World Refugee Day 2019. Around the world, communities, schools, businesses, faith groups and people from all walks of life are taking big and small steps in solidarity with refugees. This World Refugee Day, the UNHCR have challenged everyone to join together and take a step with refugees. Together we are challenged to walk 1 billion miles, the same amount refugees walk each year in search of safety.
As part of the day, the girls learned about and discussed what a refugee is, the challenges they face, and what we can do to help. We walked around Valentines Park in solidarity with refugees and recorded our steps on ‘Fit Bits’. Together we walked a total of 77.05 miles! We returned to school and added our miles to the running total. There is a long way to go so we encourage you to walk in solidarity with the refugees and send us your steps to add to the challenge. We are very proud of our efforts and are happy we have made a small contribution to the global effort. What are you waiting for? Get your walking shoes and ‘Fit Bits’ ready and send us your results!
