We are pleased and proud to announce that Park School for Girls has been presented with a GOLD AWARD in recognition of our support, time and commitment in helping our pupils achieve dreams, face their fears and embrace new skills. This has been by achieved by working with The NCS (National Citizen Service) – The Challenge Programme.

Since 2011 The NCS have come into school to explain the programme to our students. We have encouraged pupils to attend, as it offers them so much and it is now recognised throughout the country by universities and employers.

NCS is a government-backed youth programme that operating across England and Northern Ireland. Their mission is to unite and empower young people, building their confidence so they can go achieve their dreams, no matter where they are from or what their background is. Our programme is managed and supported by NCS Trust, the central team are constantly working to make sure they deliver the most impactful experience they can to as many young people as possible.

So far, nearly half a million young people have taken part in NCS, joining the fastest-growing youth movement this country has seen in over a century. For almost a decade, they have been working with local businesses, youth centres, football clubs and grassroots initiatives. Together, they are aiming to make the world a fairer, kinder, more compassionate place.

The Challenge is a summer programme for young people aged 15-17 years old. It happens over a few weeks which gives you a choice of start date.

Phase 1
Feel the freedom of the outside world during five days away from home, taking on adrenaline-fuelled activities like rock climbing, canoeing and archery. Your team will cheer you along every step of the way, sharing in every challenge, every success. Then you’ll have a few days back at home for some much-needed rest.

Phase 2
Expect transformation, because this week is all about developing YOU. Living independently, you’ll learn essential life skills from local business leaders and charities, gain confidence in public speaking, communications skills and budgeting. It all looks great on your CV, whatever you do next.

Phase 3
Now it’s time to make your mark. Back at home, you and your team will devise a community project based on an issue you feel passionate about. You have the skills and confidence to do anything – the more original, the better! This is your chance to feel proud by making a real difference in your community.

Phase 4
Finally, take stock of all you’ve achieved. You’ll have overcome challenges, pushed yourself into new and exciting territories, and had experiences you never thought possible. Celebrate your triumphs with your fellow NCSers at one great event before exploring all the opportunities NCS opens you up to. This is just the beginning!
