Every year, our Year 11 students form a Charity Committee and fundraise for it throughout the year. This year their chosen charity is ‘Girls Not Brides’.
‘Girls Not Brides’ is a global partnership of more than 900 civil society organisations from over 95 countries committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfil their potential.
The Committee’s most recent fundraiser was ‘Break the Rules Day’. This was not quite as radical as it sounds. There were still rules in place but girls could pay to wear nail varnish, call staff by their first name, wear non-uniform clothes and footwear for one day only. In order to break the rules they had to pay 50p for every rule they chose to break.
This day was very enjoyable, we were very proud that our girls participated but followed the guidelines laid down. ‘Normal service’ resumed the next.
We are very pleased and proud to announce that we raised £240.76 for the day, bringing their total, so far, for the year to £1,225.76. An amazing amount!
The Year 11 Charity Committee has learned a great deal about fund raising, organisation, teamwork and their ability to have an impact on and improve the lives of other girls. These are invaluable skills to take forward with them when they move on from Park School for Girls.
We are very proud of them!
