Announcing the new Head Teacher for Park School from September 2021
The Chairman of Governors at Park School, Mr Kondel, is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Catherine Redfern as our new Head Teacher from September 2021. Catherine is married with two children, a son of 18 years and a daughter of 16 years who are both now studying for A-levels.
Catherine grew up in Leicestershire and then Hertfordshire where she was educated in local schools. She trained to be a Business Studies teacher twelve years ago after an extensive career in industry including administration, retail, marketing, sales and operations management roles. She completed her Business Studies degree through the Open University in 2007, whilst working full time, and then completed a Masters Degree in Education with a Leadership and Management specialism in 2015. Catherine trained at Greensward Academy in Hockley, Essex, through Mid Essex Teacher Training and was awarded Trainee Teacher of the Year. She took up a position at Gosfield School, in Gosfield, Essex, as Head of Department ten years ago. Gosfield School is a small independent through school like Park School and in her time there, Catherine has held a variety of posts including Curriculum Coordinator, Director of Studies and for the last four years Vice Principal. She has taught pupils from Years 3 to 13 a variety of subjects including Business, Economics, PSHEE, Food Technology and ICT. Whilst being acknowledged as someone who is steely and determined, she is also recognised to be fair and with the best interests of children and the overall education at heart.
Catherine has a broad educational understanding, as she has led on academic and pastoral matters, she is also a Governor for a local Primary School, where she has developed her community outreach work and expanded her understanding of safeguarding. Most recently she has taken on the role of School Business Manager and fulfilled this demanding role in exceptional style. Catherine is one of the rare educators who has enough business understanding to be able to lead financial and operational matters with authority – and when combined with her in depth educational awareness she brings a wealth of experience to Park School.
I am delighted to be joining Park School this September as the Head Teacher and view it as a privilege to be chosen to lead the further development of this wonderful school. It is an exciting time to be joining Park School, with the Prep School becoming co-educational in September and the fiftieth anniversary just three years away. It was very apparent to me when I visited Park School that the culture of inclusion, kindness and mutual respect is embodied by all pupils and staff and that each and every child is enabled to flourish and succeed as a result of the child-centred philosophy. The Park School Way, which pupils talked to me about with pride and respect when I visited recently, are inspiring guiding principles for all. Park School is a successful school and as well as pupils enjoying high academic achievement they are also guided to become rounded individuals, happy and confident in themselves. I look forward to meeting and working with pupils, staff, parents and governors to ensure that Park School continues to flourish.
